Rich and refreshing selection of Easter wines from Lidl

Lidl’s Easter wines went on sale yesterday. There is a limited range this year. I felt that the white wines were stronger than the reds; they also had two good dessert wines. In addition to the two wines below, I enjoyed the textured and spicy Viognier Pierre Chavin Vallis Quietus (€12.99), the rich demi-sec Alsace Grand Cru Mambourg Camille Meyer 2019 (€14.99) and the dry and refreshing Grand Tokaji Sélection Furmint 2015 (€9.99) from Hungary.

Among the red wines, the sweet and slightly fruity Prestige Pinot Noir Bourgogne Rouge (€9.99) and the round and drinkable Médoc 2019 (€8.99) stand out. Finally, if you like dessert wines, the excellent Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2016 (€14.99) from Hungary is very expensive. All these wines are available while stocks last.

Löss & Schotter Grüner Veltliner2020, Oberösterreich, Austria

A light and refreshing dry white with cleansing apple fruits. It will make a good aperitif and will also pair very well with simply grilled white fish, such as plaice or sole. €8.99 at Lidl.

Chaplains Côtes du Rhône 2020 Séguret

Medium to full-bodied with soft, rounded strawberries, it goes well with richer beef or lamb stews, roast lamb or baked Mediterranean vegetables. €11.99 at Lidl.
